The Body Fest demo in the Art Gallery 26th September has been cancelled.Elvis DanceThere was a small attendance, but what a fun night! The Bottle Auction, ably led by amateur auctioneer, Robin Sutton, was a huge success, thank you to all who contributed by dontaing and/or bidding. Robin has now gone overseas to recover from the experience The music was great, lots of Elvis stuff and plenty of other music as well. April Club NightJust wanted to say how much Paul and I enjoyed club night last week. The members made us feel so welcome and were so willing to give up their time to teach us a few moves or correct where we needed it. And how nice of Jordan and Danielle to come and get the four of us up for a dance. Can’t wait for next club night and improvers classes to begin. Many thanks, Lynne 2010 Junior NationalsFrom the Reporter on the Spot! What would Nationals be without a hiccup getting to the venue. Traffic jams and accidents held most of us up but all arrived eventually in good spirits and ready for the BBQ and dance to start the weekend off. Some of the children met up with old friends from North and South and all tested the floor before heading home. Lin got a bit 'cheeky' in her nighty and the children all made themselves comfortable checking out all the motel rooms. Sat morning started early and with all the children excited and ready to hit the dance floor. Melissa spent the morning on hair duty and a minor hiccup with Zoe's dress getting two iron burns, which sent Connie and Colleen flying round to help with bows and support to fix the crisis. We all made our way to the hall with Cheerleading first up on the agenda, Jason and Rebecca had a quick costume change and were next up on the floor in heat 1 of Restricted with Logan and Zoe following close behind in heat 2. Both couples were wonderful and Jason and Rebecca went on to make semi-finals. Next up was Ricky and Sophie in Intermediate section who also made semi-finals with Jeremy and Kelly following in Senior section, we were all spellbound with their grace and beautiful dancing skills which all our other competing children will aspire to. Finally the moment most of us were waiting for was Aidan and Kiara in Junior section, there was hardly a dry eye watching our wee Junior couple who stole the moment with the entire hall screaming for them and their spectacular moves and floor presence. Our wee Junior champions went on to claim 3rd on the podium and have now claimed the adoration of every member of our Junior Nationals squad and making their coaches, parents, grandparents and great grandmother extremely proud. Sunday bought more hair duty for Melissa and more nerves with our junior same sex couple competing. Kate and Michaela were just fabulous and our top team bought our top dancers together with Haydens first taste of the dancefloor. Our sassy entrance and team spirit was amazing and Sophies shoe throw was a spectacular adlib, followed by some light hearted fun with the skit which bought Hannah onto the floor. What an amazing group of competing children we have and every one of them did us extremely proud. Sunday night dance bought so many highlights watching our children mix and have so much fun with the children from around NZ, and Wally, who has had so much to contend with this year, and who had more fun than all the children. The night came to an end with a 'teambonding' session which resulted in a stern warning from motel management re our noise. Special thanks to the competitive children who were so supportive of each other, who played together and supported each other through the entire weekend, the parents who were vocal and supportive and John and Trish who gave all the children special goodluck cards and were staunch supporters, (even a few tears were noted). Sam Butcher, who screamed so loud for each and every one of our children, especially the wee ones and all our supporters who made the trip to support and congratulate our juniors. We have the grandfather of the juniors who has to go to Wally with his support and breakdancing skills shown on Sunday night, the grandmother of the juniors who has to go to my mother (Shirley Speer) who is a staunch supporter and has grandchildren and great grandchildren to support, Tim who was onhand with the extra pins, which were needed right from our first competitors, and chillybin which was open to all, and all those who were onhand with 'team photos' which I am grateful for as my camera was out of use, our resident DJ Shaun, our proud coaches, and Sandra and Kathy who put so much time into costumes and Connie and Colleen who are the mainstay of our juniors and all our junior parents who are the best team ever!!!. Unfortunately all things must come to an end and we had most of our competing children present for a session at the local pool and hydroslide on Monday morning where they had a final bonding session and so much fun to end our successful 2010 Easter Nationals. Bring on next year, we will be there supporting each other other and bringing our all to make our club proud. "Thankyou Ruth for all your support, we remember with fond memories all you gave to our Juniors and how proud you would have been of your grandchildren". ' Rest in peace"
26th Birthday DanceAn amazing night, with a retro theme, lots of Rock'n'Roll posters and dress, and absolutely fabulous music by "Reminisce with Anthony". The dance floor was full all night, and Anthony took just two breaks, one for the cake cutting and notices, the other for supper!
